Terraform


Terraform (meaning "to form the Earth") planets, moon, or other structures, is a hypothetical process that changes the atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to the Earth so habitable by humans.

This term is more often used as a synonym for planetary engineering. Terraform concept developed from both science fiction and actual science. The term was invented by Jack Williamson in a science fiction story in 1942, Astounding Science Fiction, [1] but the actual concept of this story terraform ahead.

Based on the experience on Earth, the environment of a planet can be changed: but the possibility of a biosphere of Earth-like planets in other planets must diverivikasi. Mars many terraformasi used as candidates. Many studies have been conducted regarding the possibility of warming the planet and changing the atmosphere, and NASA has even hosted the debate the subject. Some potential methods for Martian climate change may fall because of human technological capabilities. Economic resources are also required to perform terraform and require funding from the government or NASA. Period of time and practice is still debated terraform. Another question left unanswered related to ethical, logistical, economic, political and methodology ekstraterestial changing world environment.

Prospective planet for diterraform is Mars, Venus and Mercury, the Moon and Europa, and Ceres.

Candidates celestial bodies might have been targeted terraform

Mars

Best candidates, although that is debatable how much the climate has changed can be maintained after Terraform. It is possible that Martian geological time scale, either in each tens or hundreds of millions of years, could lose the atmosphere and the water element again. But it is believed that Mars may once have Earth-like environment, with a thicker atmosphere and the presence of abundant water that has been lost for hundreds of millions of years running. The exact mechanism of the loss was not known, although a number of hypothetical mechanisms have been proposed. Lack of solar wind magnetosphere allows erodes the atmosphere, and gravity is relatively lower accelerating depletion of the atmosphere of Mars. And at least the activity of tectonic plates is another possibility that prevent recycling process by atmospheric gases trapped in the belly of Mars.

The core of Mars is composed mainly of iron, which allows the formation of earth's magnetosphere like. But with the core cools Mars magnetosphere cause thinning. This also may lead to poor surface of Mars geological activity that causes the surface is colder than the earth. Reheat the core of Mars may be a solution. One way, is not known success because they have not tried, is putting the giant loops in space for heating the core of Mars. But still this has not proved successful and only a suggestion.

Terraform on Mars is about three major things: to build a thicker atmosphere, reducing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and heating the core of the planet Mars.
