PNG vs GIF

GIF
Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) was developed in 1980 and more
widespread use.
GIF format is a format that compress / reduce the size of the file
using the algorithm called LZW
Value of more than GIF is a very broad support and emerged as the default option for simple images on the web
Compared with others (such as PNG) GIF is technically not
so superior, but this year is on the Web, supporting
appeared and the development of PNG, of course, be a safe choice until today.

One problem that states around the GIF format is
algorima LZW patent protected by the company Unisys USA.
Company Unisys LZW diUSA ended 20 June 2003. LZW patent expired in
Canada, France, Italy, Germany, England and Japan.

PNG
(Portable Network Graphics) was developed in 1995 and became a W3C recommendation in 1996, and has grown to almost all Web browsers to the year 1998.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics), a file format for the lossless, ptohotable,

replacement GIF and can also replace many use TIFF. Indexed-color support,
grayscale, truecolor, plus an optional alpha channel.

For the Web, PNG has three advantages of the GIF:
alpha channels (variable transparency)
cross-platfrom gamma correction (control for sharpness / brightnes image)
and color correction interlancing two-dimension (a method of progressive display).
PNG also compresses better than GIF tiap2 case (5% to 25% in type case)
